Flood defences in Argentina and Mumbai and the recovery of a profoundly toxified Florida landscape together speak of the situations as coasts erode and industrial pollution leeches into the sea and the air in a terrible cycle. Again, these projects span low and high technologies, acknowledging the range of tools which will be needed to be deployed against the burgeoning crises of productive landscapes and damaged coasts. One project on the marshes of Basra looks back to traditional typologies and technologies in mitigating environmental damage and re-establishing carefully- honed approaches to climate and comfort. Finally, another project deals with death, not in a morbid sense but in terms of bringing a kind of life back to the urban condition. The project for a new cemetery typology in Amman, Jordan, reminds us of the symbolic importance of architecture and that sustainability is a cultural as well as a climatic concept. Trois de ces propositions concernent la zone entre la mer et la terre, une frontière que la moindre hausse – même infime – du niveau des eaux fragilise un peu plus. Les dispositifs de protection contre les inondations construits en Argentine et à Mumbai, ou la tentative de restaurer un environnement complètement ravagé par les produits toxiques en Floride renvoient aux problématiques de l’érosion du littoral ou du cercle vicieux de la pollution de la mer et de l’air par les déchets industriels. Une fois encore, ces initiatives recourent à la fois à la low et high technologie, mettant à profit tous les outils nécessaires pour lutter contre les défis engendrés par les paysages productifs et les côtes endommagées. Un projet dans les marais de Bassora s’appuie sur des technologies traditionnelles afin de limiter les dommages environnementaux et de rétablir des approches mûrement réfléchies du climat et du confort. Enfin, une autre initiative s’intéresse à la notion de mort, non pas dans son aspect morbide, mais pour réintégrer une forme de vie dans les milieux urbains.
