Abused birds require time to recuperate. The rehab facility provides 3 protected habitats for the injured water birds, small birds and birds of prey. Sizes of each protected areas are designed with 3 requirements: 1- flight suitability, 2- recapturing readiness and 3- visitor visibility. Since the rescued birds are being rehabilitated for future return to nature, maintaining inherent survival skills, which significantly relying on flying capability, is key. Size of the shielded territories need to support their flights and wings but cannot be overly large since these birds will be recaptured for court appearances or physical inspection. The swooping shapes of the enclosure give varying heights and conditions for flying. High over the compound are the nesting crowns for Asian Openbills since they prey on Apple snails—helping the surrounding rice farmers from loosing rice sprouts and minimizing the use of chemicals.
