Dirk Hebel is a professor of sustainable construction and the dean of the Department of Architecture at the Karlsruhe Institut für Technologie (KIT) in Germany, as well as a principal investigator at the Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) in Singapore. His research concentrates on alternative building materials and construction technologies within a circular economy model. Hebel’s latest built projects include the Mehr.Wert.Pavilion for the 2019 Federal Garden Show BUGA in Heilbronn, the Urban Mining and Recycling (UMAR) project in Zürich, the MycoTree project as part of the 2017 Seoul Architecture Biennale and a schoolhouse complex in Cambodia that forms part of the Smiling Gecko initiative. He has also published numerous books on architecture and new building materials, including Cultivated Building Materials (2017), SUDU–The Sustainable Urban Dwelling Unit (2015) and Building from Waste: Recovered Materials in Architecture and Construction (2014).
Tim Stonor

Tim Stonor is an architect and urban planner who has devoted his career to the analysis and design of human behaviour patterns—the ways in which people move, interact and transact in buildings and urban places. Stonor is an internationally recognised expert in the design of spatial layouts and, in particular, the role of space in the generation of social, economic and environmental value. Stonor is the managing director of Space Syntax, a company created at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL) in 1989 to develop and apply predictive design technologies. He is a member of the Board of Directors at the Academy of Urbanism in London, a visiting professor at the Bartlett School of Architecture, a Harvard University Loeb Fellow and a deputy chair of the United Kingdom Design Council. Stonor joined the advisory board of the Norman Foster Foundation in 2018.
