Public Debates
Tuesday, 17 November 2021
The first edition of the Re-Materializing Housing Public Debates were held at Fundación Francisco Giner de los Ríos in Madrid with an audience of 250 attendees, in addition to hundreds of online viewers. Recognised for its unique design, the building was created by amid.cero9 and received the Spanish National Award (COAM) in 2015. A selection of members from the Academic Body were invited to participate, providing a comprehensive vision for the future of construction materials and methods.
The Public Debates were carried out in two blocks, each consisting in a series of keynotes and brief debates between their speakers, followed by a questions-and- answers session that was open to the audience. The first block included an introduction by Dirk Hebel which addressed key topics raised throughout the Workshop week, followed by keynotes from Anna Heringer and Stuart Smith and the subsequent first debate. During the second block, Johan Karlsson, Carme Pinós and Brinda Somaya gave their keynotes, before proceeding with the second debate.
Both blocks were moderated by Tim Stonor, managing director of Space Syntax, and chairman of the Debates, who skillfully responded to the discussions at hand before opening them up to the audience.
